Industrial Network Systems today announced that they successfully implemented a Dynamic Response to Order Execution within Chemical/ Batch.
With three different business units and multiple SKU’s, this manufacturer had hundreds of pages of material consumption reports manually entered into the ERP system, on a daily basis. Not only did this lead to errors in data entry, but the company found that the supply chain itself was interrupted because they were forced to determine if and where material was actually on hand, in order to fulfill a customer order. The solution? – Leverage the data from the systems that were already in place. Connecting the batch historian data directly to Oracle ERP, information such as job completion, raw material utilization, scrap, job status and finished goods were updated automatically, without the need for additional data entry. Production Supervisors and Customer could now receive order status information that was accurate and timely.
Delays in decision making can cost manufacturers greatly. Yet, technology is no longer the limiting factor. The evolution of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has all but removed the barriers to data acquisition and sharing. This manufacturer was able to leverage the technology they had in place and with the help of INS, add to their investment to make those integrations across systems, bridging system gaps and accessing data that was critical to more timely decisions. Information is power. And that access to information allowed them to make better and faster decisions.
Process efficiency and the elimination of downtime were the triggers. INS helped this manufacturer improve visibility to enable better/faster decision-making. The improvement in speed and accuracy of decisions, increased manufacturing agility…the key to remaining competitive in the market. With uncertain product demand, increasing requirements for regulatory and financial restrictions and the need to maintain a sustainable manufacturing process, manufacturers must continue to evolve their decision-making capability. This paint manufacturer realized the value of their data investment and plans to keep pace with the technologies as they evolve.
